Basic Communication Skills (BCS)

Description:
This course came about as we found the need to build a bridge between ESL and ABE.  Students needed more academic language and needed to focus on writing skills.  BCS originated from ESL 5/6 and was given a twist.  Now the BCS class falls under ABE as it is considered an academic course.  Upon completion of this class students may transfer to Intermediate/Advanced ABE or Adult Secondary depending our their TABE score.  The program does have a PLC, a core text and a Pacing Guide.  This summer, the California Department of Education recognized this program by distinguishing it with a Promising Practices Award.
